Inspired by the network of roots that grows underground, which expand and connect with each other, creating a kind of imperceptible citadel where nutrients, space and information are shared. On these networks of roots grows the Nopal (edible cactus that represents the Mexican culture), which is one of the most common plants in the border desert and expands widely throughout the two territories. The southern border of the US is in constant movement, like El Nopal, exchanging all types of cultures, objects and thoughts.
For this project "Border" from the El Nopal series, I paint with acrylic and oil a cardboard box (an object in constant movement that represents commerce and is used for the transportation of merchandise), to which I incorporate and separate a play on words " IN-SIDE" referring to the constant movement and transformation on the border.
